can I just point out something? kill la kill’s females do a lot of things that are typically never done by women. Mako is beaten up for comic relief. Ragyo wants to take over the world for reasons that are not driven by man problems. Satsuki is a ruthless, cold, utterly respected leader. Ryuko is the stereotypical hotheaded shounen protag—except she’s a girl.
i’m really tired of seeing girls stand by as the man protects them, as the man takes the beating and she sits in the sidelines and looks on with tears in her eyes. I love Ryuko and it hurts to see her hurt like this, but this episode was so refreshing because it showed her tossed around and punched; Tsumugu even hits her while she’s defenseless and bloodied on the bathroom floor. kill la kill’s girls aren’t fragile and it is so empowering to see that.

…..this episode actually made me pretty uncomfortable when I first saw it, because of the bathroom scene, but!  One thing that I did really like about the show was that they never had a part where a female character is made defenseless and a male character saves her
……oh wait….That actually happens in this episode…I forgot….. But I thiiiiink yeah, aside from episode 5, Ryuuko and Satsuki and Jakuzure, AND Mako too!! All fight their own battles, without any intervention!  It was sooo cool that Mako was the one to come out and protect everyone on the SS Naked Sun
